As part of our collaboration with IKEA, we designed a functional space in the automation hall for an international team of employees tasked with developing and improving products introduced to the brand's range. The space, which serves as a plant and research center, will be used by employees from the development and automation department, factory managers, as well as machine operators. The challenge was to carve out and adapt space for the project at a specialized site without making major changes to the facility's infrastructure, ensuring that the implementation would not disrupt the plant's daily operations.
We implemented our project in alignment with IKEA's concept of Democratic Design, the foundation of every IKEA product, which includes function, form, quality, sustainability, and affordability. Within a 1000 sqm hall, we established four workrooms using a multifunctional modular system. These rooms feature a futuristic and industrial design, aiming to inspire productivity while seamlessly integrating with the overall aesthetic. The fundamental concept behind our creations was to convey the essence of the IKEA logo within the exhibition space.
The starting point for developing the visual identity, directional information, and arrangement of the exhibition was the combination of yellow and blue, characteristic of IKEA Retail. We chose to anchor the visual identity in geometric shapes and harness the potential of colors to create purposeful spaces. This led to the creation of four rooms where function seamlessly integrates with the brand's colors. The final result is a cohesive space that is easily navigable. Within the overall design area, we delineated three autonomous work rooms and one dedicated to the exhibition area.
The blue room featuring the neon installation 'Think outside the box' is designed as a space for cultivating new and unconventional ideas, encouraging out-of-the-box solutions. We created a relaxing atmosphere centered around the color blue, known for enhancing concentration and fostering creativity and brainstorming. This space is intended for employees to engage in casual conversations that can evolve into inspiring meetings. Additionally, we ensured the presence of comfortable furniture and linear lighting for an optimal work environment.
In the area designated for computer workstations and group activities, we opted for the predominant use of yellow—a motivating color known to enhance cooperation and action. The interior features a subtle yet distinct design centered around the motif of a yellow circle, complemented by a typographic installation, 'Connect the dots,' displayed on the mirror. We enhanced the overall ambiance with distinctive technical drawings of machines. This room is crafted to inspire collaborative efforts, foster team spirit, and is ideal for various meetings, teamwork sessions, and conferences.
The workshop space serves as the hub where ideas are translated into tangible projects. It boasts an elegant, industrial, practical, and aesthetically pleasing design, featuring self-contained workstations equipped for handling tools and electronics. The open layout of this room aligns with the exhibition area, where the focal point is the spacious environment and the iconographic layer, imparting a wealth of knowledge about various printing technologies.
At our core, we believe in the principle that the best projects emerge through comprehensive completion. We prioritize the timeliness and high quality of each project while ensuring competitive pricing. The development of the visual identity for the IKEA Industry exhibition involved detailed discussions in several productive meetings. After refining the concept and outlining project stages, we promptly set our plan into action. The result is a functional visual identity for a modern exhibition, poised to serve as an excellent internal marketing tool.
