ABOUT THE PROJECT

The exhibition about the musical culture of the early days of the Polish state required our team to refer to the source materials. The topic was developed based on medieval iconographic sources and professional literature discussing musical issues

CONCEPTUAL WORKS

The concept of the project was based on an analysis of historical sources and a consultation with experts. Continuous contact and communication, enabling the efficient flow of information, were truly crucial at this stage. Based on the guidelines, space was divided into six thematic groups related to issues such as the early Piast dynasty period, Christianity, court and knighthood, philosophy, city, and folk culture.

GRAPHIC DESIGN

The graphic design was deeply embedded in the context of the artistic creation of the Middle Ages, taking into account the individual character of each individual thematic group. In order to emphasise the division, even more, each category was assigned a different color. We also created promotional materials in the form of sound animations, posters, and invitations.

INSTALLATIONS

YOS Studio also made one-of-a-kind installations to make the exhibition space more attractive visually. One of such objects was stained glass-work that was created using fluorescent paints and UV light. We also made installations objects that allowed for the interaction with the viewers. It was, among others a philosophical circle with rotating segments, created on the basis of iconographic information about the work of Hildegard of Bingen.

SOUND DESIGN

A very important element of the exhibition was the sound design that complemented the content and visual experience. The sound’s presence was also used to evoke synesthesia which is the integration of the senses. Each thematic category was assigned an individually developed music theme and as a consequence all sounds formed a coherent entity. During the sound production process, the acoustics of the room in which the exhibition was located was also taken into account.

PHOTO / VIDEO RELATION

YOS Studio prepared also photographic documentation of historic objects (musical instruments). It served as a supplement to the application accompanying the exhibition and for the production of promotional materials. We have done also video and photo coverage of the exhibition.
