A New Museum Project
Stepping into the old tenement house at 4 Żydowska Street in Poznań, you’ll be transported straight to the era of the Polish People’s Republic. Inspired by their love for this period, the two founders decided to create a space that is not only filled with historical artifacts but, more importantly, encourages visitors to experience history firsthand. They approached us with a proposal to collaborate on key elements of the museum: designing areas for visitor services, arranging the main exhibition hall’s display furniture, and developing a unique set of interactive educational experiences.
We began the process with an on-site visit, during which we conducted photographic documentation, took measurements, and analyzed the space. Based on this, we prepared technical drawings and several conceptual proposals, which we discussed with the museum's founders. We then developed detailed designs, selected the appropriate technical solutions, and oversaw the production and installation. We specialize in the comprehensive execution of such projects, ensuring the highest quality of the final result.
Shopping? Only at the RUCH Kiosk!
We transformed a small space into a functional and representative ticket and souvenir shop, blending the atmosphere of the Polish People’s Republic with modern design. At the center, we placed a custom-designed and built RUCH kiosk, serving as the museum’s visitor service point. Its distinctive design is highlighted by carefully chosen colors and details, such as a playful pigeon on the roof, a newspaper basket, and yellow chains.
Modern design in communist style
The communist period, although often associated with gray and deprivation, evokes warm memories and brings a smile to many people's faces. We decided to add some color and give it a modern touch. We used a vibrant color palette not only in the graphic designs, but also in the arrangements. Simple typography and carefully selected texts allowed us to avoid overloading the boards with information, and experiments with collage, in which we used atmospheric photos, added a unique charm to the whole. The result? A cheerful and dynamic exposition that encourages you to discover the history of long ago.
In the largest room of the museum we found an icon of the People's Republic of Poland - the wall unit, a symbol of functionality and maximum use of space. We transformed this fixed element of almost every apartment into a piece of furniture that tells the story of everyday life in the communist era. We divided it into thematic blocks: Poznań in the People's Republic, work and vacations, culture and design, around the table, children's world and fashion. For each section, we developed content, selected objects and designed interactive elements to engage visitors.
See, touch, experience
A story can be told in many ways - the more interactive the form, the longer it stays in the memory. In the project, we used proprietary solutions to encourage the discovery of curiosities: opening drawers, looking through a peephole or exploring objects by touch. On the rotating educational stand, we placed collages featuring views of Poznań, and in the closet, boards showcasing fashion trends for children, women, and men. The drawers contain photos of popular dishes and stills from films from the PPR era.
Interactive games at the exhibition
What stands out most about the Museum of the People's Republic of Poland are the interactive attractions that take visitors directly to the everyday life of decades past! Here you can feel the climate of those years, putting together buildings made of bricks as if they were housing estates made of big plates, assembling wooden models of iconic cars of the People's Republic of Poland and testing your knowledge in a quiz for adults. And that's not all! A special telephone apparatus allows you to eavesdrop on three authentic conversations - about shopping in stores with a constant shortage of goods, holiday adventures at the summer camps and emotions accompanying the reception of the “toddler” of your dreams. A real trip back in time - full of nostalgia and fun!
Museum souvenirs
Many of the designs created for the Museum of the People's Republic of Poland are likely to become unique souvenirs that will bring a touch of that era into today's homes! The colorful design, from the museum's activities and the design of the iconic meblościanka, will go well with wooden puzzles with classic cars, printed blocks or even a game simulating shopping in the People's Republic of Poland. And that's just the beginning! The magnets inspired by vintage interiors also look promising — perfect for decorating any fridge. Style, nostalgia and fun all in one!
